Thanksgivings and a sincere token of esteem by Peter Bernstein, valued jazz musician boasting such remarkable artistic collaborations and a notable career with his own bands. Now that he has found his best suited Reference cable, he doesn’t want to use anything else even when he plays into small clubs. Here below what he wrote us, just few days later we met at Umbria Jazz 10… |

Peppino D'Agostino chose RIC01A
|
 |
There's a new Reference cables' friend: Peppino D'Agostino, a virtuoso acoustic guitarist and composer, born in Italy but long time resident in California. He wrote: I did used the RICO1A cables live with speakers MEYER and also my AER amp. I was very impressed by these cables sturdiness, their excellent signal reproduction, their quietness and the high quality materials used to build them. |

Tuck and Patti's report about RMC01
|
 |
Hi, Angelo!
As you know, we have done many cable A/B tests over the years, starting in the early 80's. It was clear to us from the beginning that not all cables sound the same, and we went to considerable lengths to find the best-sounding ones. We did not have the tools to do scientific A/B tests, so we were reduced to switching cables as fast as possible, then singing or playing some more. Even that way, relying on our memory, both of us could hear clearly that there were differences. Patti became our top tester. She would go into another room while Tuck played and switched cables, then she would yell "That one!" whenever she liked one. She always picked the same one! |

Cables under the spotlight: Reference lab
All cables are the same… who did say that? And that going for the most expensive always brings the best performance? Reference Lab, leader among the manufacturers of high quality cables, finally decided to use the new Meet show in Milan to present its products in a totally different and original manner: a comparative listening session. «Our primary committment, as manufacturing company said Angelo Tordini is to break the veil of indifference that is typically expecienced when talking about the "poor technology" of a cable. If it is true that all product cathegories within the audio realm saw incledible evolutions and improvements during the past decades, we may understand that cables cannot stay behind, being be the same as 50-years ago... Pushing this concept to its limits, we could say that today cables are indeed the most critical and fundamental component along the audio chain». However, it is very common for a musician or a professional to consider the cable as a mere accessory of their daily activity, and therefore… the cheaper, the better. The comparative listening tests now proposed by Reference shows that this attitude is not only ingenuous, but also risky for the overall sound quality.
«We canot use a single microphone cable for any application states Tordini as we have several changing constraints to be evaluated and considered for each case: electrical, environmental, mechanical… not to mention requimenents for safety and regulations ! Cable runs may vary from 20 to 100 meters depending on the application; cables can be used for live (outdoor) or fixed installation, for suspended or underground lines … Variables that can influence the audio perforance are countless, and here we want to demonstrate that choosing the right cable can really make the difference ». If we look the comparative listenig tests presented at Meet under this light, we see this is NOT a "trade show exploit", as proudly underlined at Reference Lab. « The comparative test is on the first place a new evaluation methodology we want to introduce. A method that is
indeed quantitative and available to anyone. And it can be used to "feel" the impact of any innovation in terms of of technology, materials, and manufacturing process. And the Reference Lab catalogue is indeed rich of innovations as we have as many as 12 models of microphone cable, to make an example. The photo shown the comparative test made during Meet show in Milan. There were some unbalanced cables of different lenghts (5 and10mt) specific for guitar and bass, linked with a passive DI Box , directly from the instrument to the mixer.
